6 Tips for Hassle-Free Travel from the Nanaimo Airport

PDF Media Release – Holiday Travel

The next 10 days at the Nanaimo Airport will be the busiest period of the year.

“It’s really a combination of people travelling for the holiday, plus the increase in the number of meeters and greeters at this time of year,” says Nanaimo Airport President & CEO, Mike Hooper. “With our year-to-date passenger growth at over 20% we want to remind everyone that an easy way to have a hassle-free start to their holiday travel is to arrive at the airport early.”

Top 6 tips to reduce holiday travel hassles:

1. Come early – Arrive at the airport at least 90 minutes before your flight. This is particularly recommended during the three daily peak flight times between 6:20am and 8:15am; between 11:30am and 2:00pm; and 6:00pm – 7:15pm.

2. Ho-ho-hold the liquids, aerosols and gels – Avoid bringing items that contain liquid, aerosols or gels in your carry-on bag. This includes alcohol, snow globes, maple syrup, perfume and lotions. Remember that these items must be 100 ml or less and must fit in a 1-litre clear, resealable bag.

3. Unwrapped gifts are the best – Screening officers hate unwrapping other people’s presents. But as contents may need to be inspected, your wrapped gift may need to be opened, regardless if it’s in your carry-on or checked luggage. It’s best to wait until your final destination to do the wrapping.

4. Make time to relax – In addition to more people, there are more bags, so screening may take longer than usual. Plan to clear security early and enjoy the comforts of the departure lounge. There is plenty of seating, TVs with news and sports, a play area for the kids, plus food and beverage machines.

5. Check before you go – When picking up an arriving love one, check on-line at nanaimoairport.com for up-to-the-minute flight information before you head out the door.

6. Grab a can – Regardless why you are at the airport, be sure to bring a non-perishable food donation, for the in terminal food drive.
