We partner with tourism and industry partners to support air service development through innovative initiatives, including cooperative marketing.
YCD ROUTES
Air Canada provides regularly scheduled service to Vancouver, plus a seasonal direct flight to Toronto.
WestJet offers regularly scheduled service to Vancouver, Calgary, and seasonal flights to Edmonton.
Pacific Coastal operates daily flights to and from Vancouver (YVR – South Terminal) and Kelowna.
This gives Islanders access to hundreds of connecting flights from the country’s three main airline hubs. Travellers can leave Nanaimo Airport in the morning and arrive at many global destinations later that day.
YCD Catchment Area
Our primary service area includes a population greater than 253,000. The greater service area includes the Regional Districts of Comox-Strathcona and Mount Waddington, with an additional population base of 150,000.
YCD Operations
The Nanaimo Airport is certified for use by commercial air carriers in accordance with Canadian Aviation Regulation 705. The airport is open for air traffic 24 hours a day.
YCD is classified as an airport of entry by NAV Canada and is staffed by the Canada Border Services.
Safety Culture
Our priority has always been the safety of all who use our airport. We use trend analysis to reduce risks through our Safety Management System. Its rigorous requirements help us detect and reduce safety hazards in our daily operations.
We trained our staff and on-site partners and contractors in our Safety Management System. They are instructed to be vigilant in identifying all safety issues and reporting them immediately.

YCD Maintenance & Response Service
Airfield maintenance is carried out by staff and contractors. Our airport-owned heavy equipment includes:
YCD is also equipped with two Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) vehicles. They are manned by a team of professionals trained in on-site emergency response.
The ARFF vehicles use high-powered turrets to pump water, foam or dry chemical to extinguish fire. They provide a timely initial response while awaiting arrival of community fire departments.
