Construction Updates
In 2016 the Nanaimo Airport Commission Board of Directors approved a 20-year Master Development Plan for the Air Terminal Building. The plan addresses three critical priorities for the Commission: Meeting escalating demand for air service through the next decade, regional economic development, and economic stimulus through infrastructure construction.
Building for the Future
The plan uses an innovative modular design that allows additional space to be constructed as demand warrants and funding becomes available.
The first phase was a $14.5-million project that added 14,000 sq. ft. of space, increasing the current footprint by approximately 60%. The Departure Lounge was sinifcantly enlarged, and more room was made for security screening. The expansion was completed in February 2020. Ground was broken for construction on April 17, 2018.
