Nanaimo Airport Commission Becomes “Winter Wonderland” for Annual Open House

A Winter Wonderland will greet visitors to Nanaimo Airport’s annual open house on Wednesday, November 4.

The Nanaimo Airport Commission invites the public to attend the event from 3 to 6 p.m. “We look forward to our open house every year because it allows people to share information about our operations and receive feedback,” says Mike Hooper, President and CEO of the Commission. “It gives us a chance to show our appreciation for all the support we get from our neighbours and partners in the communities we serve.”

The open house’s Winter Wonderland theme celebrates the airport’s new WestJet service to Edmonton that starts Dec. 15. Visitors to the open house can also learn more about the global travel connections that are now available to central Islanders thanks to our air carriers.

Airport staff and the Commission’s Board of Directors will be on hand to discuss the
Commission’s work, and capture feedback.

Visitors can also take part in an airport equipment tour, enjoy refreshments and win door prizes.

The Airport Commission is comprised of up to nine Directors, all appointed by the
Commission. Four directors are selected by the Commission to represent the community at large. The remaining five appointments, as required by Commission bylaws, come from nominations made by:
• The City of Nanaimo
• The Regional District of Nanaimo
• The Cowichan Valley Regional District
• The Town of Ladysmith
• The Greater Nanaimo Chamber of Commerce
Hundreds of thousands of people pass through the Nanaimo Airport every year while
travelling to and from destinations around the world. Passenger traffic increased 16.6 per cent in the first nine months of 2015, compared with the same period last year.
