Security Screening
Canadian Air Transport Security Authority (CATSA) regulations require a number of security and screening procedures for your safety. All passengers at Canadian airports require a pre-board screening before going to their gate for departure.
Before Boarding Your Flight
You’ll go through a security screening that checks all carry-on bags and personal items as well as each person.
If you catch a connecting flight, you may have to go through another screening depending on your destination. Check with your airline for more information.
Here are the steps you need to follow:
- 1
Follow signs to the security checkpoint.
- 2
Declare any items you have questions about and follow the screening agent’s advice.
- 3
Place any checked luggage with bag tags on the first X-ray machine and proceed with your carry-on bag.
- 4
Have your boarding pass ready. You may also need to show photo identification.
- 5
Place your personal items in bins.
- 6
Send your bins as well as your carry-on bag through the X-ray machine.
- 7
Walk through the metal detector.
- 8
Retrieve your carry-on baggage when directed by security staff.
Screening Tips
Have Questions?
Speak to a screening agent for any questions you have relating to permitted and non-permitted goods prior to dropping off your checked bag. You may be able to re-pack your luggage and avoid potential screening issues.
