Getting to YCD: green, safe, convenient options this fall

1 October 2025

Fall’s unpredictable driving conditions don’t need to affect your travel plans. Nanaimo Airport (YCD) is served by a range of convenient transportation choices designed to reduce stress, support the environment, and keep you safe.

Buses and shuttles

The Regional District of Nanaimo and BC Transit now provide two routes serving YCD.

Route 78 YCD Airport via Cassidy/Downtown Nanaimo offers five buses per day, Monday through Friday. The first one leaves downtown at 6 a.m. and the last one at 6:03 p.m.

The Route 70 NCX Nanaimo–Cowichan Express, meantime, has added Sunday service so it now runs seven days per week. On weekdays, seven buses make the trip, starting in Duncan early in the morning. Two additional later evening trips are made Fridays. Eight buses run Saturdays and five on Sundays.

The airport bus stop is just south of the terminal.

The Nanaimo Airporter, meantime, provides 24/7 service from Ladysmith to Qualicum Beach. It includes door-to-door rides, guaranteed on-time performance, and online booking,

Taxis, ride-hail and rentals

When you need flexible scheduling, taxis and rideshare pick-up is available outside the Arrivals entrance at YCD’s Air Terminal Building. You can book them online.

AC Taxi and Yellow Cab serve the airport and surrounding communities. So does the rideshare URide, which requires use of its app.

If you’re returning from a trip and need to rent a car, Budget and National provide a range of vehicles at the airport.

Parking and EV charging

If you prefer to drive, YCD offers abundant parking with the convenience of online payment.

The pay lots offer long-term and short-term spaces. There’s also designated parking for persons with disabilities. Use the HonkMobile app or the Pay by Plate kiosk.

For electric vehicle users, four fast-charging stations are available in the main lot and north lot near car rentals. Reserved for EVs, these stalls have a one-hour limit and operate at 22 cents per minute. Funded with federal and provincial support, the chargers reflect the airport’s commitment to a clean-energy future.
