Working under the direction of the Senior Manager of Operations and the Duty Manager, the AOS is responsible for providing Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting, responding to medical calls and emergencies on airport property, airport operations including but not limited to: the maintenance, repairs and inspections of YCD facilities and buildings, airfield maintenance and inspections, bird and wildlife control, maintenance and upkeep of grounds and equipment, and operating a variety of heavy and light equipment. Winter maintenance including inspections and reporting of surface conditions, applying winter chemicals and conducting snow removal both manually and with a variety of light and heavy equipment, conducts flight security for passengers of commercial aircraft along with a variety of other duties as required.

Working under the direction of the Senior Manager of Operations, the Superintendent Safety and Security will oversee and direct all safety and security functions of the Nanaimo Airport and has the authority to perform or supervise the execution of all safety and security policies, procedures, and programs to accomplish stated goals and objectives of the Safety and Security office in accordance with all applicable federal and provincial laws and regulations.

This includes responsibility for safety and security best practices with air carriers, contractors, tenants, employees, and the public throughout all operations of the Nanaimo Airport. This is a multi-disciplinary role involving airport assets, customer care, emergencies, environment, safety, and security, and it requires leadership and professionalism with the ability to build relationships with airport partners, tenants, contractors, passengers, and the public. The Superintendent Safety and Security will also work directly with and provide guidance and leadership to the Assistant Superintendent Safety and Security.
