Pilot Information
YCD is serviced by RWY 16/34. RWY 16 is categorized as 3C non-precision (AGN IIIB) and RWY 34 as 3C non-instrument (AGN IIIB).
All instrument arrivals are to RWY 16 via RNAV (GNSS), NDB/DME and/or NDB, and all are published in the Canada Air Pilot (CAP). The Restricted Canada Air Pilot (RCAP) publishes the RWY 16 ILS approach with a decision height down to 455’ MSL (373’ AGL) and a visibility of 1-1/4 miles. RWY 34 has an offset approach of 8 degrees to the east due to rising terrain directly south of the airfield.
Air Terminal Operations
YCD is utilized by air carriers operating under Canadian Aviation Regulation 705 to provide scheduled passenger service. The airport is certified in accordance with Canadian Aviation Regulations.
The Nanaimo Air Terminal Building serves as the primary air passenger facility for the greater Nanaimo area.
Our terminal amenities include a licensed café with a gift section, car and truck rental agencies, and long-term and short-term parking facilities. Other transportation services include taxis, shuttles and public transit.
Commercial Operations
Our commercial aviation facilities and services include scheduled and charter flights, air cargo and freight-courier services, aircraft refueling and maintenance, flight training and sight-seeing tours, as well as aircraft parking and hangars. YCD sees occasional activities from air ambulance, BC Forest Fighting, corporate jets, Search & Rescue, Angel flights and military exercises. We are also an alternate airport for aircraft unable to land on the West Coast.
Also located on the premises is a golf course and clubhouse that offers taxiway access.
