Snowbirds return with help from Nanaimo Airport

1 August 2025

Nanaimo Airport’s commitment to the communities it serves includes bringing them together on the ground in addition to connecting them in the air.

This month is a prime example.

The airport is spearheading the return of the Canadian Forces Snowbirds to the Harbour City on August 15 and 16. People from all over the Island will be able to watch from the ground as the world-famous aerobatic team performs high in the sky.

An evening show is planned for Aug. 15, followed by a daytime demonstration Aug. 16, over Nanaimo Harbour and Maffeo Sutton Park.

It’s the last B.C. stop on the Snowbirds’ 2025 North American tour.

Nanaimo Airport Commission, in partnership with the City of Nanaimo and the Nanaimo Port Authority, have been planning the event for more than a year. The region was chosen from among the many communities across the country requesting an appearance by the team.

“We’re very proud to be hosting the event,” says Dave Devana, Nanaimo Airport President and CEO. “It’s a great chance for the public to see the Snowbirds in their hometown.”

The Snowbirds represent the excellence and dedication of the Canadian Armed Forces. Their repertoire includes more than 50 precision formations and maneuvers.

The airport’s commitment to the community doesn’t stop there.

It now has its own double-sided electronic billboard that provides free space to local tourism agencies to support Island tourism and local events.

The billboard along the Island Highway also showcases current flights, which help connect local communities with the world.

Additional summer routes can take passengers to Toronto and Edmonton, in addition to the usual routes flown by Air Canada, WestJet and Pacific Coastal.

Air Canada’s direct flights from Nanaimo to Toronto continue twice a week through the end of August.
