Drinking Water | Groundwater | Wastewater

Nanaimo Airport manages drinking water, groundwater, stormwater, and wastewater to ensure a reliable supply and protect surrounding water resources.

The airport operates its own drinking water system, supported by routine treatment, testing, and system checks to meet regulatory standards. Groundwater is safeguarded through test wells and aquifer management practices across the site.

WATER MANAGEMENT

Infrastructure and operational controls are designed to protect water quality, including double-walled fuel tanks within concrete containment areas, along with established procedures for safe fueling and handling.

Wastewater and stormwater systems manage flows from both terminal operations and the broader property. System performance is supported through flow tracking, regular testing, and treatment processes that maintain water quality and system efficiency.

Nanaimo Airport also supports nearby aquatic environments. Along Haslam Creek, embankment improvements help maintain channel stability, while seasonal checks of nearby channels and pools help protect fish habitat. Where needed, fish are safely relocated in coordination with conservation partners to support healthy local populations.
