Airport touches all aspects of Central Island life

Nanaimo Airport is a cornerstone of the Central Island. It fosters connections and reconciliation, celebrates community, and provides expertise to help drive growth.

Here are some recent examples of how YCD touches all aspects of life in the region.

Supporting communities, connecting them to the world

YCD’s summer contests showcased some of the many destinations the airport brings within easy reach. It also supported a major community festival.

  • Toronto getaway contest

Vartan Chorbajian won the Toronto Trip Giveaway, which included a trip for four to Toronto, plus admission to a Blue Jays game and Royal Ontario Museum, and accommodation at Fairmont Royal York Hotel. The draw took place at a Family Game Night hosted by co-sponsor Nanaimo NightOwls.

  • Connect With Canada contest

Patti Keen and husband Kim Fogarty won a recreation and relaxation package that included a six-day getaway to Kelowna, golf, wine, and luxury accommodation. The winners will celebrate their wedding anniversary in Kelowna, and Kim will enjoy a trip in the Cowichan Valley. YCD partnered with Kelowna Airport, Wines of BC, Pacific Coastal Air and Tourism Kelowna for the contest.

YCD helped sponsor the annual festival, which featured international sandcastle builders compete on the beach.

Continuing its commitment to reconciliation

YCD honored the rich cultures and contributions of Indigenous peoples across Canada on Indigenous Peoples Day. Nanaimo Airport is privileged to acknowledge the ancestral lands of the Stz’uminus and Snuneymuxw Nations.

Delivering excellence that drives growth

The expertise of airport workers continues to create economic benefit for the region.

  • International recognition for financial management

YCD’s chief financial officer, Keith Granbois, was named one of Airports Council International’s 2024 Airport Finance Professionals of the Year. The award honors those who help ensure North American airports are financially stable to benefit future generations.

  • Recognition for airport workers

YCD celebrated the inaugural Airport Workers Day June 26. Their work ensures that communities remain linked, supporting our economy and daily lives.
