Emergency Preparedness test scheduled at YCD with Live Exercise Oct 21, 2016

The Nanaimo Airport plans to test its emergency response plan with a live exercise on Friday, October 21, 2016.  Mike Hooper, President and CEO of the Nanaimo Airport explains, “Safety is our number one priority and exercises like this provide the opportunity for multiple local agencies and the airport to test their individual response plans and gain key learning to respond to an emergency situation involving an aircraft.”

Transport Canada regulations require all Canadian airports to host a full scale live exercise regularly.   Participating agencies will include the Cranberry Fire Department, Airport Security and Operations, RCMP, NavCanada, BC Ambulance and onsite air carriers.

The scenario planned for Friday will simulate an aircraft incident while attempting to land.  The exercise will begin mid-morning.  While travelers will notice signage, emergency response vehicles, and Public Address announcements throughout the exercise, no impact to regular operations is anticipated.
