People are Ready to Travel. Nanaimo Airport is Ready to Help
6 December 2022
2023 is shaping up to be a great year for travel at Nanaimo Airport (YCD).
The Central Island’s most conveniently-located airport enters the new year with:
- expanded flight options and infrastructure
- safety enhancements
- exceptional customer service
- flight reliability.
Together they help make the traveling experience even better. They also leave YCD well prepared for the continuing recovery of air travel.
“We think the future is bright and we’re planning for it,” says Dave Devana, president and CEO of Nanaimo Airport. “People are flying in ever greater numbers. We continue to focus on simplifying travel and making it as convenient as possible.”
New investments are planned for 2023. They include planning and design work on the second phase of the Air Terminal Building expansion. The project will enlarge the departure lounge, improve baggage handling and expand airline counter space. Passengers and the airport’s airline partners will all benefit.
2022 saw the return of a non-stop flight to Edmonton and the resumption of a seasonal non-stop flight to Toronto. Flights also connect Islanders to Vancouver and Calgary. The routes give residents easy connections to the country’s major international air hubs. That puts hundreds of global destinations within same-day travel.
“The communities we serve trust us as the Central Island’s gateway to the world,” Devana says. “They want safe travel options as they reconnect with family, friends and leisure and business opportunities. We provide the flight choices and proven health and safety protocols they deserve.”
The airport starts 2023 with substantial safety and operational upgrades complete. The runway, aprons and taxiways have been resurfaced. That ensures our airside infrastructure is ready for the next 20-plus years.
The new year will also see more of YCD’s proactive marketing. It draws people to the region, boosting economic activity and supporting jobs here. In 2022, Nanaimo Airport and Halifax Stanfield International Airport partnered on a #Reconnect with Canada Coast to Coast campaign. It spurred travel. It also earned a finalist nomination for a prestigious international airport marketing award.
